Personal Direction Project 1

My intention with this piece was to create a diptych in which the pieces juxtapose each other through an abstract landscape by using organic pattern, color, texture and composition.

Project title and description:
I am going to make a diptych with two panels that are 2x4. I found this beautiful organic pattern on a piece of wood that resembles topography maps. I plan on drawing the contours of the wood in color using watercolor and acrylic on one panel and monochromatic on the second panel. Using line and color to mimic contour lines and relief shading in topography maps.

Project Intention:
I have been exploring color and landscapes in recent work. I want to make paintings of abstract landscapes using color and pattern. I am using natural patterning of wood to express my perception of color and what is aesthetically pleasing to me. The two panels will juxtapose each other with the use of different colors and optical effects.
